Don’t Let Scholars Fall Behind This Summer: Enrollment for Free Summer Learning Program is Now Open

(Indianapolis, Indiana) – It’s time to start making plans for the summer season, and seats are open for scholars grades kindergarten through 8th grade to join Summer Advantage USA (SA), a nationally recognized and free summer learning program. Hosted in Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Texas, Washington D.C, and virtually, Summer Advantage offers rigorous, research-based academic instruction and a wide variety of hands-on enrichment classes for scholars to enjoy during the 5-week program.

Summer Advantage offers scholars the opportunity to mitigate summer learning loss while participating in fun activities such as field trips, community service initiatives, motivational speakers, and the arts. The program partners with school districts and philanthropic partners in local communities to provide scholars with a safe and fun learning environment.

“Every scholar, no matter their zip code or income, deserves high-quality education that sets them on the path to lifetime success,” said PLA Founder & CEO, Earl Martin Phalen. “When the school year ends, scholars can go months without access to learning opportunities, leaving them at a disadvantage when they return in the Fall. Summer Advantage USA offers scholars the support they need to ensure a brighter future.”

Studies show that the math skills of nearly all students dip during the summer. However, children’s reading and language skills in affluent, higher-income communities often continue to grow over the summer. In contrast, children’s literacy skills in underserved communities tend to decline. The achievement gap between these students widens every summer and has a substantial cumulative effect until Summer Advantage USA. SA works to lessen that gap. SA has transformed traditional summer programming practices by making it accessible for all scholars while encouraging community engagement and development.
