Frequently Asked Questions
What is Summer Advantage USA?
Summer Advantage USA is a non-profit organization that runs high-quality summer learning programs for children in grades K-8. The program focuses on academics and enrichment. Summer Advantage aims to provide children access to a well-rounded summer program that helps them succeed in school, stimulates their dreams for the future and helps them develop as leaders in their communities.
What do Summer Advantage USA’s programs look like?
For five weeks during the summer, Summer Advantage USA hosts children at their local schools. Children begin their day with a healthy breakfast and then receive instructions in reading, writing and math. After a nutritious lunch, scholars participate in enrichment activities such as art, drama, engineering and sports. On Fridays, scholars lead community service projects, go on field trips and hear from inspiring guest speakers. Check out the Programs page for more information about summer programs.
When is the program?
Our program runs Monday through Friday, during four to five weeks from June to July or July to August (depending on the state and school district). The program typically runs daily from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (some of our program sites are on an extended schedule and run beyond 3:00 p.m.)
Can anyone attend?
Children from participating schools and in eligible grade levels can attend. However, the program has a limited number of spaces, and some children may be placed on a waitlist. Ask your school principal if your child is eligible.
Where will Summer Advantage be available?
This year, we will serve scholars and families in Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and New York. Please click on the application above to begin an application for your child (note: if your school district or program is not displayed, we are not yet serving that district/program). New regions may be added on an on-going basis, so please check back prior to May to see if your school district or program will be hosting the Summer Advantage program.
How can I register my child?
To begin the registration process, you must first submit an application (please click on the application link above to begin an application for your child). By the end of May, we will notify you of your scholar’s enrollment status.
